A 50-Year Passion for the Unexpected Industry David’s story began with a part-time job in high school and led to a 50-plus-year love affair with an unexpected industry: fine jewelry. He worked his way up from sweeping the floors to closing sales, and eventually found his way to the bench where he began learning the trade of goldsmith. Over time, his curiosity piqued, leading him to Salado, Texas where he apprenticed under a brilliant artist and sculptor. It was here that David’s appreciation for art and passion for design was ignited, inspiring him to pursue his own way in the world of custom jewelry.
When Innovation Collides with the Creative Process
Confessions of the engineer-turned-artist: David loves a challenge when it comes to jewelry design. Though concerned the years were wasted, studying engineering for three years at Texas A&M actually gave David an unexpected edge when it came to crafting jewelry. He’s able to take one look at a drawing, an initial doodle or concept, and determine what kind of mechanisms or clasps may be needed. Julia, like many women, loves a versatile piece. A pair of earrings that can be converted from long and elegant to short and more ‘everyday’ wear… or a bracelet that can be lengthened to a necklace, or maybe even a pendant with a removable diamond halo! Some would say ‘that’s crazy’, but David says ‘I love crazy!’
Exactly Like Nothing Else
David Gardner believes differentiation is a major player when it comes to longevity and loyal customers. If asked to list what differentiates DG’s from the rest, colored gemstones would likely fall in the top three. David has dedicated a great deal of time, research and study to gemstones and gemology. When working with a new gem, David delves into its origin, characteristics and unique features.
