The Tradition of Aggie Ring Day

Aggie Ring Day is a milestone for every Texas A&M University student, a day that celebrates years of perseverance and academic success. Since 1889, the Aggie Ring has stood as a symbol of the Aggie Network, representing unity, loyalty, and shared values among the university’s alumni. Each ring is deeply rooted in tradition and symbolism, with every design element reflecting the rich history of Texas A&M.

The shield on the top of the Aggie Ring symbolizes protection of Texas A&M’s reputation, while the thirteen stripes in the shield represent the original thirteen states, a nod to the patriotism ingrained in the Aggie spirit. The five stars stand for the holistic development of students, encompassing intellect, physical strength, spiritual growth, emotional poise, and integrity. And the eagle soaring above represents agility, power, and the ability to reach great heights—qualities that every Aggie strives to embody.

On one side of the ring, you’ll find symbols of Texas’ storied history, including the five-pointed star encircled by olive and laurel leaves, representing the balance between achievement and the desire for peace. The other side reflects the determination and valor of Texans, featuring an ancient cannon, saber, and rifle that signify the readiness to defend one’s land.
